India another planet?

School run. 12 in the tuktuk?! India’s answer to the school run with the fearless Mum in her Rangerover, doggedly dodging the Putney puddles listening to horrors on the radio ;-[

Which it surely seems to be-I’ve been there 6/7 times, living in my tent in jungles, deserts, volcanoes, and tiny islands! I have photos and stories of outrageously different customs and attitudes, Hinduism, 6 legged cows, houses made of books and cowpats, crazily decorated transport, children contributing in many different ways to the family budget, etc. I’ve REALLY lived India, travelling off piste, no hotels, for months, living locally, making friends, eating local food. This is the most popular talk for all ages, especially those Seniors, taking time out later, after school, a “Gapportunity”, for the adventure of a lifetime, and for or those with families overseas. For juniors, some of the photos are totally nuts, eliciting groans, gasps, and much rolling in the aisles!

“The Hektor Krome experience is unique – bursting with optimism, vitality, humanity and zest for life. Like the people he photographs, he represents how real life is to do with fundamental values, demonstrating that people living in what we see as poverty, in fact can live rich and fulfilling lives. The children loved it. ”

Gap year volunteers from Bryanston and Dauntseys relaxing in India, obviously! I’ve been encouraging leavers to spend a few months volunteering in this fascinating , cheap, and doable Gap year destination. Over the years I’ve had feedback from hundreds who have come back matured and wordly wise with the experience of a lifetime

“You have done for real what Michael Palin and T.V. crew have rehearsed, scripted, and staged. It is important for leavers to know that travel needn’t cost the earth. Brilliant!”

Steve Richardson, Bryanston

My fishing pals, followed me all day.“Pukka fishing sahib!”
Nuts! Oh India, how I love ya!

“Both sets had an absolutely riveting time, engrossed by your extraordinary anecdotes and carried away by your marvellously original photos.”

“Hektor has done for real what Michael Palin has rehearsed, scripted, and staged. It is important for young people to know that they can travel to other countries, safely, and have a worthwhile time, perhaps volunteering ad hoc, without it costing the earth….”
